The Story

Mike “Gecko” Souirielle has become a master of his craft, producing tiki mugs and carvings for the last 30 years out of his home studio in Mahakilo, working with restaraunts in Hawaii and beyond- La Mariana and Skull and Crown to name a few. No matter the medium, each piece is one of a kind, never repeated exactly, and carries the essence of the islands through Gecko’z vintage hawaiiana and polynesian inspired style.

The Drink

South Seas Sling – The Singapore Sling was invented at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore in 1915 and is often cited as a tiki drink, though the cocktail predates the first tiki bars by more than a decade. The drink has more variations than you can shake a stick at and many are very delicious. This version is a twist on that classic cocktail. It’s a gin-based drink that has a lot of complexity, thanks to a surprising blend of different liqueurs.

London Dry Gin – 1 ½ ounces
Brandy – ½ ounce
Apricot Brandy – ½ ounce
Cherry Heering Liqueur – 1 ounce
Fresh Lime Juice – 1 ounce
Spiced Simple Syrup – ½ ounce

Combine all ingredients in a shaker and fill with ice cubes. Shake vigorously for 20 to 30 seconds. Strain the contents of the shaker into the Haka Mug filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a maraschino cherry speared on a cocktail pick, plus a pineapple frond.
