Polynesian Tiki Resort – Outrigger Hotel – Postcard Unposted #1

The Outrigger Hotel in Honolulu's history began with Roy and Estelle Kelley, who opened the first of their hotels, The Islander, in 1947 to provide affordable lodging for middle-class families. The company was named after a property the Kelleys purchased from the estate of Queen Emma, and they opened their first hotel to carry the Outrigger name, the Outrigger Waikiki, on that site in 1967. The brand grew into Hawaii's largest hotel chain and expanded globally, later creating the OHANA brand for three-star properties and being acquired by KSL Capital Partners in 2016.
