Tiki Mug – Mai-Kai – Mara Amu #4 – OMC Japan

Since 1956, visitors the world over have come to the Mai-Kai for its award-winning Cantonese and American cuisine, tropical drinks and authentic South Seas setting, including thatched huts, torches, waterfalls, lagoons and magnificent gardens. You may dine in an elegant semi-private dining room or enjoy the merriment of dinner and the spectacular Polynesian Revue.

Otagiri Mercantile Company (OMC). The company was an importer of porcelain, stoneware and giftware in the San Francisco area for more than 46 years. The products were made in Japan and were imported for distribution and sold to high end Restaurants, Bars, Department Stores and Gift Shops worldwide. Otagiri products were handcrafted, hand painted and highly sought after.

Mara Amu – Created by Mariano Licudine who was at the Mai-Kai from opening day in 1956 until his retirement in 1980. Mariano spent 16 years behind the stick at the Chicago Don the Beachcomber’s before joining the Mai-Kai, where he tweaked Donn’s recipes and added many of his own. The Mara Amu is a streamlined version of an earlier drink he invented called the Big Bamboo.

Dark Jamaican Rum – ½ ounce
Gold Puerto Rican Rum – ½ ounce
Light Puerto Rican Rum – ½ ounce
Fresh Lime Juice – ¾ ounce
Fresh Orange Juice – ¾ ounce
Fresh White Grapefruit Juice – ¾ ounce
Passion Fruit Syrup – ¾ ounce

Combine all ingredients into a blender with 8 ounces of crushed ice. Blend at high speed for 5 seconds. Pour the contents into the Mara Amu Mug. Garnish with a mint sprig.
