The Disney Polynesian Luau, known by various names like Polynesian Revue, Kauai-Pono Polynesian Revue and South Seas Luau, has been a significant part of the Polynesian Village Resort's history since its opening in 1971. Initially, the luau was held on the beach, but a covered area was added in 1973 to accommodate inclement weather. The show featured traditional Polynesian entertainment, including hula and fire dancing, along with storytelling and a family-style, all-you-care-to-enjoy meal. Over the years, the luau evolved, with a brief period featuring Disney characters as part of "Mickey's Tropical Revue". The show ultimately made way for Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show, which debuted in 2003.
