The Tommy Bahama brand was conceived by Bob Emfield and Tony Margolis, who, while relaxing at their beach houses, envisioned a fictional character named Tommy Bahama living the ultimate "one long weekend" lifestyle. They created a line of upscale, casual apparel, starting with men's wear, and later expanded into women's wear, accessories, and home furnishings. The first Tommy Bahama store and restaurant opened in Naples, Florida, in the mid-1990s.
