Daga Hawaii began as Polynesian Pottery in Honolulu before transitioning to Daga in 1972. The name "Daga" is derived from the first two letters of the founders' names, Dan Coscina and Gary Nelson.

Daga Hawaii became known for providing ceramic restaurant-ware, particularly Tiki mugs and coconut cups, to various restaurants, bars, and event organizers in Hawaii, including popular Tiki establishments like Tiki Gardens. Daga Hawaii capitalized on the mid-century popularity of Tiki culture, which embraced elements of Polynesian art and design. Their mugs and other ceramic items became popular souvenirs and collector's items. They produced a wide variety of Tiki mugs, including those commemorating specific locations and events, like the Fog Cutter bar in Makaha, Hawaii. Other ceramics often featured iconic tiki designs, including Moai figures, bamboo motifs, and warrior faces. Their ceramics remain sought-after by collectors of vintage Hawaiian and Tiki memorabilia, showcasing the enduring appeal of the era and Daga's role in capturing its spirit.
