Tiki Mug – Orchids of Hawaii – Fu Manchu R-82

Orchids of Hawaii was a restaurant supply company known for producing Tiki mugs and other ceramics, primarily for the restaurant and bar industry. They operated from the Bronx, New York, and sourced their ceramics from Japan and later Taiwan. The company was active for a period between 1962 and 1994, with the Japanese production likely preceding the Taiwanese. Orchids of Hawaii, along with Otagiri Mercantile Company (OMC), were major mass producers of these collectible items.

Doctor Funk – Well-known German doctor Bernard Funk was not only Robert Louis Stevenson’s physician and friend, but was also the alleged inventor of an early version of this drink during his many years serving as a doctor to the people of Apia, Samoa.

Black Pot Still Unaged Rum – 2 ¼ ounces
Herbsaint Liqueur – ¼ ounce
Fresh Lemon Juice – ½ ounce
Fresh Lime Juice – ½ ounce
SC Grenadine Syrup – ¼ ounce
SC Demerara Simple Syrup – ½ ounce
Seltzer – 1 ounce

Add all ingredients to a drink mixer with 12 ounces of crushed ice and 4 to 6 “agitator” cubes. Flash blend and open pour with gated finish into the Fu Manchu Mug. Garnish with a ti leaf or a pineapple frond.
